Shabbat Starter by The Tzomet Institute – Ride with Dignity and Halachic Integrity
The Titan 4 is available with a certified Shabbat mode, designed by the renowned Tzomet Institute. This halachic-technical solution enables individuals with mobility challenges to travel on Shabbat while adhering to Jewish law (halacha). The system is widely approved by prominent rabbis—even for use in non-life-threatening situations.
How It Works:
The Tzomet Shabbat Starter keeps the scooter in a constant low-speed "crawl" mode. Movement is initiated through gramma (indirect activation), and changes in speed or direction are performed without directly switching the current. The rider does not turn the motor on or off, but adjusts the current flow—a halachically permissible action on Shabbat.
As explained by the Tzomet Institute:
“People with restricted mobility are comfortable on weekdays by virtue of such equipment as an electric wheelchair… But on Shabbat these unfortunate people lose their ability to move around… The halacha not only considers their needs but obligates them to enjoy Shabbat. In response to this, we developed a complex halachic-technical solution… The main switch is turned on using the principle of gramma… the scooter remains in a continuous 'crawl,' and the rider changes the level of the current—an action permitted on Shabbat under these circumstances.”
This Shabbat-approved scooter empowers users to attend synagogue, visit friends, and fully participate in Shabbat life—safely and respectfully. The Titan 4 equipped with this system is a thoughtful solution for anyone with mobility challenges observing halacha.
